I would have appreciated it more if the presentations started closer to 6 than 640.

As an organizer, one of the most challenging (and rewarding) things about H/H is sharing tricks of two different trades -- journalism and development -- in an engaging way. Chris, Derek and Juan-Pablo took a useful tool and did a terrific job showcasing it in a way that both audiences could relate to. But I think the spirit of collaboration really came through from the members, who both asked and answered questions, offered helpful comments and showed genuine interest in real-world applications. I really enjoyed the interactivity. Awesome group and keep the feedback coming.

I enjoyed the meetup and did learn the basics of how to use Fusion Tables, but I don't think I learned anything that I couldn't have picked up from the walk-throughs that were already provided.

A nice mix of smart people, very engaged in coming up with new ideas for applying technology to journalism.

This has definitely been one of my most interesting evenings in Chicago. Instead of just listening to experts (which is no doubt a treat), it was a brainstorming with rockstar hackers, superstar journalists and a ticking clock - I couldn't stop smiling with satisfaction long after the meetup was over!

There is a lot of potential in bringing these groups together. ChicagoCrime, Everyblock, Sunlight Labs makes this clear. Unfortunately, the talks presented a this meetup did not come close to that potential. The rapid dev talk was great for techies like me, but did not connect to the non-techies at all. The talk about the robotic writing software was OK. Given the fact that it had no real technical content, and it was a bit too long and too commercial.

    Awesome talks.

First talk ("Impossible Deadlines") presented some interesting ideas, although I wish he had time to give more details. Third talk ("Narrative Science") sort of got derailed by questions about the potential for bias, as though human reporters weren't plenty capable of that too.

I'm a hacker with some things still to learn before I'm really proficient, and I enjoyed all three talks, even though I wasn't familiar with some of the software discussed. The meeting was well-run and it was good to see people I hadn't seen in a while. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet many new people, but maybe that's just 'cause I'm a little shy. One complaint: it was hard to see the bottom of the screen in the back of the room.
